INSPIRATION FOR DOLL
I named her Lillian after my 10 year old niece. Lillian is a lovely old-fashioned name. The lady who embroidered the vintage linen might have been called Lillian.

MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES USED
I used vintage embroidered linens and my collection of fabric remnants and buttons. The hair decoration was inspired by Japanese Tsumami Kanzashi floral hair pins. Some of the fabrics in the hair decoration are Japanese cottons.

BACKGROUND
I studied textile design at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland, and The Royal College of Art in London. I now work as a freelance journalist specialising in design. I am a fabric addict and can’t resist vintage textiles.

Bold fabrics by Marimekko, Maija Isola, Fujiwo Ishimoto. Tricia Guild and Kaffe Fassett for their wonderful use of colour.
